When will I need laser to my eyes?

Many eye conditions can be treated with laser at Queensland Eye Institute. Laser treatments often decrease the need for further surgery. Dr Sharma provides the following treatments:

  • Retinal laser retinopexy

    • For retinal holes and tears, to prevent a retinal detachment
  • Focal retinal laser

    • In certain types of conditions such as diabetes or vein occlusion
  • Pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP)

    • In certain conditions such as diabetes, vein occlusion or uveitis
  • Laser Capsulotomy (Nd:YAG laser)

    • To clear scar tissue that can develop around your lens after cataract surgery
  • Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

    • For reducing eye pressure in glaucoma, and reducing your need for certain glaucoma eye drops

Dr Sharma does not do LASIK, PRK or other corneal ‘refractive’ surgeries.

He will go through the risks, benefits and alternatives to the treatment in detail. Please make sure you advise us of your medical history, and any questions or concerns you may have.
